For his entire nautical career, Cap’n Crunch wore a great injustice on his sleeve. It bore three stripes, while his rank commanded four. The egregious design choice stirred intense social debate, Redditor fury, and even a NY Times article. But after 60 long years, right prevailed and the Cap’n earned his fourth stripe. To announce the updated fit, we celebrated in a fashion befitting an iconic pop culture Captain - through ComicCon cosplay.
Just as Brie Larson was hitting the SDCC 2023 stage to promote The Marvels, we crashed the convention, and the Captain spotlight, with dozen and dozens of four-striped Cap’n cosplayers.
We even hyped the new stripe by covering San Diego with mysterious FOUREVER movie posters.
