Once Upon A Time, there was a place called Blockbuster...
Lest we not forget, Blockbuster was once the second most recognized brand in the world. And during that glorious yesteryear, I was their global creative director.
Among other things, I was responsible for the 'Ray and Carl' campaign. I wrote the spots, oversaw the animation and directed the VO talent, which included a who’s who of Hollywood B-listers, including James Woods, Jim Belushi, Alec Baldwin, Carnie Wilson, Bobcat Goldthwait and Albert Brooks. At the time, it was the biggest commercial production in the world. The celebrity trailer costs alone were in the millions.
"Mouse Click" was Super Bowl XLIII's number one-rated spot, the campaign won lots of Gold Clios and the plush toys still fetch $29.97 on eBay, even in 'fair' condition.
And no, I wasn’t responsible for the fall of Blockbuster. Blame Carl Icahn for that little oopsie.
